Talk show with Zjef Naaijkens, who recently announced that De Veulpoepers are coming back together. "This government on the steps, the Poepers on the stage".

In times of political headwinds we could use some fun again. With those words Zjef Naaijkens announces De Veulpoepers 3.0: already the second reunion of Brabant’s most talked-about music group.

The anarchist folk band was founded in Hilvarenbeek in 1976 and quickly became known with cheerful protest songs against, well, against everything actually. The band was often present at action meetings, such as against cruise missiles, against cutbacks or against politics in general. Their most famous song was “Den Egelantier”.

The band ceased to exist in 1982, only to have its first reunion in 1996. It soon ended in a fight and the band fell apart again. Two years ago, the Music Film Festival showed the documentary ‘De Hippies van Beek’ about that history.

But now De Veulpoepers are back, with partly the original line-up. They are again against: against the acid in society. And they are in favor of enjoying and dancing together. Of course with all the – still current – songs that everyone knows. And also some news.

Tilburg pop journalist Paul Geerts will interview Zjef Naaijkens for an hour and a half and show fragments from the past of De Veulpoepers and from Zjef’s own archive. How did he become so musical? What did he do after De Veulpoepers? What was he doing in South Africa? And why this reunion?

We show well-known but also previously unseen video fragments (which did not make it into the documentary at the time). Zjef will also show some video footage of his musical favorites: who inspired him?
