In times of political headwinds we could use some fun again. With those words Zjef Naaijkens announces De Veulpoepers 3.0: already the second reunion of Brabant’s most talked-about music group.
The anarchist folk band was founded in Hilvarenbeek in 1976 and quickly became known with cheerful protest songs against, well, against everything actually. The band was often present at action meetings, such as against cruise missiles, against cutbacks or against politics in general. Their most famous song was “Den Egelantier”.
The band ceased to exist in 1982, only to have its first reunion in 1996. It soon ended in a fight and the band fell apart again. Two years ago, the Music Film Festival showed the documentary ‘De Hippies van Beek’ about that history.
But now De Veulpoepers are back, with partly the original line-up. They are again against: against the acid in society. And they are in favor of enjoying and dancing together. Of course with all the – still current – songs that everyone knows. And also some news.
