Little Satchmo
Film about jazz legend Louis Armstrong
Documentary about legendary jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong and his secret daughter Sharon. Plus interview with film director John Alexander.
Louis Armstrong was one of the few black musicians who were popular among the white population in the 1950s and 1960s in America. Armstrong, also known as Satchmo or Satch, an abbreviation for Satchelmouth, did everything he could to maintain that popularity. He could not afford a scandal, but there was one. Officially married, he maintained a secret relationship with a woman for 12 years, with whom he had a daughter.
The Emmy Award-winning film Little Satchmo about Louis Armstrong is made by Los Angeles-based filmmaker John Alexander and producer JC Guest. The film gives insight into a very special time with very special human relationships. And you wonder if it was meant to be that way.
American film director John Alexander and producer JC Guest are coming to Tilburg for an extensive live interview and a conversation with the audience. We will also try to have a live conversation with Armstrong’s daughter Sharon Preston-Folta.
This film screening will be immediately followed by a live concert by Michael Varekamp and his band in jazz club Paradox.
The film starts at 19:00, the concert at 21:30.
Your ticket is a combination ticket for both events: film + concert
