Drummer Joost Patocka is certainly no stranger to the Dutch jazz audience.For the past 30 years he has been seen and heard in Benjamin Herman’s trio, with singers Ruben Hein and Rita Reys, with saxophonists Piet Noordijk, Maarten Hogenhuis and Branford Marsalis and he leads, together with fellow drummer, Stefan Kruger, the band Krupa & The Genes.
Since 2007, Joost has been a teacher at Codarts Rotterdam, where he supervises young talented drummers. He is also the artistic director of the Jazzkerk Aartswoud and of the Trommel festival. Joost recently published the Trommel magazine for readers, Ouwe Kaas, and he makes the well-listened to podcast ‘Joost Patocka’ or why everyone hates jazz so much.’
At the Music Film Festival, Joost Patocka & his band will play a special repertoire of Max Roach songs, composed specifically for this evening.
