Jan Donkers started as a pop journalist in the late 1960s by emphasizing music with his radio programs for VPRO, with an emphasis on American rock, soul and blues.
As a pop critic for de Volkskrant and editor of the underground magazine Aloha/Hitweek, he conducted interviews with musicians, including Frank Zappa, John Lennon, Janis Joplin and Gram Parsons. As a radio maker he has made countless music programs, such as ‘Hee’ with Wim Noordhoek and Peter Flik; ‘Amigos de Musica’ with Rik Zaal; ‘Gonzo Radio’, ‘Double Play’ and ‘Gonzo’s Return’.
At the Music Film Festival in Tilburg, we will talk to Jan Donkers on Sunday afternoon at 2.00pm at Film Theater Cinecitta. Based on his favorite music fragments from TV and film, the show will and definitely feature his favorite band: The Ramones.
