Andrés Godoy grew up in a poor neighborhood of the Chilean capital Santiago. At the age of 14 he had an accident and lost his right arm. Godoy had one love at that time: his guitar. For a long time he thought he had lost that dream completely, but the military oppression during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile encouraged him to pick up his guitar again. As a documentary maker, Saam (1974, Passau, Germany) focuses mainly on cultural themes, climate and social issues. He worked for the French-German TV channel Arte for many years. “El arte de perder” is his first feature documentary.
